A comparison of participation and performance in age-group finishers competing in and qualifying for Ironman Hawaii For the ‘Iroman Hawaii’ triathlets must qualify, with the qualification by majority about age groups. We have compared the distribution and performance of the Ironman Triathlen in the qualifiers with the ‘Ironman Hawaii’ for the year 2010.Athletes between 25 and 49 years made a larger part of the qualifiers, while athletes were represented by 18-24 and 50-79 years more on the ‘Ironman Hawaii’. With regard to performance in the individual disciplines as well as the entire competition time, there were significant differences between the qualifiers and the ‘Ironman Hawaii’ in the individual age groups. Under the line, athletes seem between 25-49 years and men on the ‘Ironman Hawaii’ clearly subordinate when compared to the qualifiers.This group of athletes seems to have significantly worse cards to qualify for the ‘Ironman Hawaii’. Age and gender interactions in short distance triathlon performance We have examined the relationship between gender and age with the competition performance in short distance triathlets on the, Zurich Triathlon ‘from 2000 to 2010. For women, participants in age groups significantly increased 40-54 years.Men in the age group 50-54 years and women of 45-49 years could improve their performance. If one compared the five fastest men and women’s performance for the individual disciplines and the total time, the women were 15.2 ± 4.6% slower in swimming, 13.4 ± 2.3% slower in cycling, 17.1 ± 2.5% in running and 14.8 ± 1.8%Slower throughout the competition time.

Weight and size in endurance athletes

Estimation bias: body mass and body height in endurance athletes The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a known variable that correlates with performance in endurance charges.The BMI is calculated on the basis of body size and body weight. We have a comparison of 1,607 athletes, including 255 women and 1.352 men, a comparison between the results for body weight and body size that tells us the athletes and the effectively measured values. Men like women underestimated their body weight and overestimated their body size, so the BMI was too low. Especially older athletes (> 35 years) have underestimated body weight and overestimated the body size so that it came to a significant difference in the BMI between the communicated numbers and the effectively measured numbers.
